Whale rider

We can lent a DVD 100 yen a week near my shop. It's so cheap I have ever lent. So nawadays I watched some movies. Also I want to listen in English and read English subtitles on movies. Some of the scene I'm able to understand but some of the scene or some of the movies it' s hard to understand in English. One day I'm supposed understand it more than now.

Well, today I watched "Whale rider". The story about aboriginal people of New Zealand which calling Maori. When I've been to New Zealand, one of a Japanese recommended me the movie.

It's very important Maori tradition that a head of Maori must be a man. The central character of the movie is girl. She is only grandchild of the head of Maori. So the head of Maori is grandfather of the central character. She wants to respond to expectation of him, but he reject her because there is Maori tradition.

Oneday she makes miracle that she helps killing a whale in exchange her life... Whale is very important for Maori. I think the whale knows her impression. At last she is alive and she will follow the head of Maori.

It's so beautiful landscape movies. And it's interested in traditional Maori for me. Some of Maori people look like Japanese. Some of Maori languages very similar to Japanese.

I need to watch Japanese subtitle next because I want to understand all of story.
